BBG, a variant of Brilliant Blue (Blue 1) is a P2X7 receptor antagonist and is shown to also block neuronal sodium channels.

It is the most potent agent yet found that interacts with sodium channels. Other sodium channel blockers include lidocaine, lamotrigine (Lamictal), phenytoin (Dilantin), and carbamazepine (Tegretol) – drugs used for treating pain, epilepsy, bipolar disorder, etc.
